Passionate about making a difference.
The Chartwell Consulting Group was formed in 1988 in when Mike Wills left the partnership of Ernst & Young Management Consulting to establish his own consulting practice. Early clients were the Laurentian Bank, the Royal Canadian Mint and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, where he had previously held various management positions, including Controller of the International Division.
Since then Mike has provided senior project management and specialist consulting services to a wide range of private and public sector clients both in Canada and overseas. An early passion for international development work, particularly micro-finance, led him to work with funding agencies and their clients, ranging from CIDA, the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, Inter-American Development Bank and, most recently, the German Development Agency.
Mike’s experience in banking and microfinance resulted in him serving for a year as Chief Financial Officer for Opportunity International’s microfinance operation in Ghana, followed by two years as Chief Executive Officer of Opportunity International’s operation in Russia, where he led the conversion of an NGO to a Bank, obtaining a banking licence and successfully launching the new bank. Mike went on to consult for the World Bank on banking matters in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Uzbekistan.
